Career
While living alone in Tokyo, Melwani started posting her music videos and cover songs on her self-titled YouTube channel in November 2007. Because Melwani lived far from her family and friends, she started her online journey “to overcome the sheer loneliness.”
She admitted to a UK-based web publication in June 2010 that she posted her first YouTube video to stay connected with her friends.
“When I posted my first YouTube video, I thought it would be a great way to stay in touch with my friends back home since I was in Japan. As she explained, it was my way of sharing my music and voice with my circle of friends and family (and I thought some others might watch as well, which was fine with me as well).
As well as hosting live online broadcasts called SheenaTV, she engages the audience in stimulating interactive discussions. SheenaTV was started after Yahoo! approached her about being a broadcaster for a beta project called Yahoo! Live in 2010.
