Early Life
On November 14, 1996, Gooding was born in Los Angeles, California, to Sara (Kapfer) and Cuba Gooding Jr. Among his three siblings, he is the eldest. Cuba Gooding Sr., the former lead singer of R&B band, The Main Ingredient, was his paternal grandfather, and his uncle is actor Omar Gooding. Barbados was the homeland of his paternal great-grandfather.
He played varsity football for four years at Windward High School in California. In 2015, he graduated. Football and theater were his main interests in high school. Despite wanting to begin acting after his graduation, he decided to attend college after visiting his father on set in New York. His studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts include dramatic writing and psychology. During his junior year, he dropped out to pursue acting full-time.
Career
When Gooding was still in college, he found a manager and an agent and began booking roles. In HBO’s dramedy Ballers, he starred opposite Dwayne Johnson for his first major role. Booksmart, directed by Olivia Wilde in her directorial debut, was Gooding’s first major film role. The television spin-off of the 2018 film Love, Simon, Love, Victor, cast Gooding as Andrew. Hulu premiered the series in 2020, originally developed for Disney+. Gooding, who played football in high school, had to learn basketball for the role.
Earlier that year, Gooding appeared in Netflix’s Christmas-themed romantic comedy Let It Snow. He began appearing in Everything’s Gonna Be Okay on Freeform in 2020. Gooding was cast as Chad Meeks-Martin in Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s fifth Scream film in September 2020. On January 14, 2022, the film was released.
