Originally from Korea, Jessi (제시) is a rapper and songwriter. She was a member of the hip-hop groups Uptown and Lucky J, as well as the project girl groups Unnies and Refund Sisters. Under the name Jessica H.O., she released her solo debut album “Get Up” on December 1, 2005. She is a former member of Uptown, Lucky J, Unnies, and Refund Sisters, a girl group she founded. Recent hits include Nunu Nana, What Type of X, and Don’t Touch Me.

Family and Early life
Jessi was born in New York but moved back to Korea at the age of 15. Jessi lived with her grandmother in Korea when she moved over there and enrolled at Korea Kent Foreign School. She has a mixed Korean-American ethnicity who’s nationality is The United States of America
Education
Jessi attended Korea Kent Foreign School during her educational career. Jessica Jung and Tiffany Young, both members of Girls’ Generation, attended the same high school.
She was even a trainee at SM Entertainment for a short period of time, but left after she felt the company’s style of music did not suit her.
She was often bullied at her school due to her race, but her two brother always proacted her.
Musical Career
- In 2005, Jessi released her debut single Get Up.
- Jessi was featured in Uptown’s 2006 album Testimony, replacing their original vocalist Yoon Mi-rae.
- Her second single album, “The Rebirth,” was released in January 2009.
- She took a break from music after the release, and returned to America.
Jessi’s popularity shot up after she competed in Unpretty Rapstar, a reality competition show where she had to compete against younger contestants. Though she did not win the competition (she placed second), Jessi’s strong performance and charisma won the hearts of the viewers.
